Hi Wu, Having looked into this further, it's actually not possible to get the Map Update Service through TomTom Home due to the way the maps are installed. The SD card comes with a preinstalled 'certificate' file to verify the map installation is genuine. TomTom Home needs to be able to read this - often when it's a preinstalled map it cannot read the certificate, and therefore, cannot offer the Map Update Service to you. Regarding your question as to if there are any future plans for this, I'm afraid that TomTom Staff / Employees can't comment on that, as any new product/software information are to be officially announced in our press releases which you can find on our website here: target='blank I'm glad you like the new titles - they are quite fun! Hi FOS No, that's just me not arguing with a wall. They will do it if the want to and the won't if they don't.

TomTom is that sort of corporation. The reason I was not bothering? I am converting my HD2 accross to Android where I will use Google with voice for free. It seems to be more acurate than TomTom (fewer incorrect routes and unknown junctions etc) and I find Live Trafic to be a 'technology in development'. That is it often does not detect trafic incidents in time and I end up using the re-calculate route. Bye Tom Tom - It was great whilst it lasted - But you really got to keep up.

PS and they don't give me these patronising tags either. Hi FOS, It appears that the Hardware based PND G/TT have no concept of why I would want to carry around a cellphone with a GPS system aboard. I carry one device with me ALWAYS, my HTC HD2, my third HTC windows phone. I drive into the bush, out here in Southern Africa it is not difficult to get out of range of a cell phone signal!

So onboard maps are a must. I have owned Navigon (purchased with mt Tytn II) - turfed it as their ZA maps are a laugh, TT N6, used in Europe during a bit of a walk about - again onboard maps essential if one wished to avoid MASSIVE roaming charges for data, then onto Garmin Mobile XT version 5. G allowed me to record my tracks and layout routes with Mapsource while in the Okavango delta wih my Pajero 4x4. The maps have got a bit out of date so I needed an update late last year. It was a huge decision as neither G or TT were supporting smartphones properly - G's Mobile XT was released in 2008, has not being updated. TT are stuck with N 7.9 also 2008 release.

In the end I have made a choice, buy v8 maps for TT v7, they work thankfully, but I cannot get TT Home 2 to recognise when I plug in my phone, so will miss the map updates. I now purchase Tracks4Africa maps for my off road work and use G XT Mobile. The big problem is that the biggest and best PND map producers are not not particually interested in the smartphone market - apart from the iPhone. I am staggered, I do a bit of software develpment and cannot imagine why they are not all over me to get my measly R/$ out of my pocket - are they both so skint?

After investing so much in building up their core map data, they seem to be handing this market to Bing and Google and not spending a bit of R&D on upgrading their UI for the newer platforms, Android and W7.5 or W8. I am due an upgrade to my phone shortly and have no idea what I will buy with the current lack of support for OS' other than Apple. For me out here online maps are not an option and I do not wish to have to carry another device with me when I hike or travel in the bush. Let's see what the future holds and hopefully both of these two former masters of the universe don't push themselves into extinction in the future smartphone market. Hopefully not Bye Bye TT - snap out of it guys!
